Practical Help for Living with Bipolar Disorder

If you have bipolar disorder, coaching helps you stay well: spotting the early signs, understanding what’s happening, and getting more out of the care you already have. It works alongside treatment, not instead of it, so I ask that clients be under the care of a doctor or psychiatrist.

If someone you love has bipolar disorder, coaching helps you understand what they’re going through, respond to episodes, and look after yourself along the way. [More for families ↓]

What We Work On

Your relapse-prevention plan. What does it look like when you’re drifting toward mania? Toward depression? At what point do you act, and what do you do? We’ll build a personal plan with your warning signs and the steps to take, written down so you can use it when it counts. Most people build their plan over three or four sessions.

Understanding your diagnosis. What bipolar disorder is, how it tends to behave, and how that applies to you. Clear information, from someone who has studied it professionally and lived it personally.

Working with your treatment team. How to prepare for psychiatric appointments, what to ask, how to describe what you’re experiencing, and how to advocate for yourself. I don’t give medication advice; I help you have better conversations with the people who do.

What Coaching Is and Isn't

It is not psychotherapy, diagnosis, or medical treatment, and it is not crisis care. I don’t diagnose, treat, or advise on medications.

If you’re in crisis: in the US, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 911. Elsewhere, contact your local emergency number or go to the nearest emergency room.

Supporting Someone with Bipolar Disorder?

If you love someone with bipolar disorder and live outside Ontario, coaching is available for you too. We can work on understanding what your loved one is going through, recognizing early warning signs, communicating during episodes, preparing a family crisis plan in advance, and taking care of yourself so you can keep going.

How it works

  2. Sessions. 50 minutes, by secure video. Book one session at a time, as often as is useful.
  3. Rate. $200 USD per session. Reduced rates are available – just ask on the intro call.
